April is School Library Media Month

April is School Library Media Month

CE&MS Library will celebrate School Library Media Month in April by planning different activities including the 22nd Annual Chilton Public School Libraries’ Trivia Contest, National Poetry Month, 4th Grade Reading Sleepover, National Library Week, Library Fine Amnesty Week, a Library Tea, NO-TV Week, Family Reading Night, and distributing Children’s Book Week Bookmark Contest winner’s bookmarks. Winners of the 22nd annual Trivia Contest receive:  one-of-a-kind CPS Trivia Contest     t-shirts, plus 1st place-$20.00, 2nd place-$15.00, 3rd place-$10.00 in books from the Book Fair held in conjunction with the Chilton Elementary Fine Arts Night, May 26, 2009, 5:30-8:30 p.m. and the Chilton Middle School Spring Celebration/8th Grade Recognition, May 31, 2009, 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  The first 25 entries receive library tokens.  Copies of the trivia contest are available at each Chilton Public School Library.

April is National Poetry Month.  Any student who writes, recites, or reads a poem to the library media staff during the month of April will be entered in a drawing for poetry books.

The 17th annual Fourth Grade Reading Sleepover will be held April 3-4, 2009 with 50 students participating and many parents volunteering to help and even stay overnight.  We will play outside, read, eat supper, read, play Trench, read, play Chinese Checkers, read, get ready for bed, listen to a bedtime story and sleep in the elementary school gym.  In the morning, we will wake up, read, receive certificates of participation, eat breakfast and go home.  A good time will be had by all. This event is sponsored by the Chilton PTA and Chilton Elementary POPS (Power of Positive Students) committee.

Worlds connect @ the Library! is the theme for National Library Week, April 12-18, 2009.  To celebrate, CE&MS Library will offer amnesty for library fines all week.  We are also encouraging school spirit by holding special dress-up days.  Monday – backward day, Tuesday – be a star day, Wednesday – hat day, Thursday – travel day, Friday – slipper day.

The library media staff (Sue Salzsieder, Eileen Buelke, Diana Wagner) will provide a Library Tea in appreciation of all the cooperation and support provided by the staff and administration of Chilton Elementary and Middle Schools for the library media program on April 14th.

Chilton Public Schools, Chilton Area Catholic School, and Trinity Lutheran School will hold its 13th NO-TV Week, April 20-24, 2009.  We will be asking families to contract to keep their television sets off for a week.  In exchange for not watching television, events are planned by the Library Media Departments with support of the Chilton PTA.  Substitute activities will include:  Family Reading Night, Read Around the School, Family Dinner & Game Night, Ledge View Nature Center, Swimming, Couch Potato and Poster Contest.  Many thanks to all who help sponsor NO-TV Week:  the Chilton Public Schools Library Media Department, Chilton Area Catholic School, Trinity Lutheran School, Ledge View Nature Center, and the Chilton PTA.
Family Reading Night will be held April 20, 2009, 6-7 p.m.  All students are encouraged to come to the CE&MS Library with their parents to read, eat snacks provided by the Chilton PTA, and share their Accelerated Reader records.  Please use the CMS entrance.
