Board of Education Meeting

Monday, November 16, 2015, at 6:00 pm

Community Room of the High School Building

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015.

 

1. Call to order

Mr. Randy Lisowe called the meeting to order.

 

2. Roll call of members

Present: Bailey, Brickl, Criter, Kolbe, Lisowe

Also Present: Dr. Claire Martin, Mrs. Lisa Lau, Mr. Rich Appel, and Mr. Ty Breitlow.

 

3. Verification of notice pursuant to s.19.84(1)(3) Wis. Stats.

Notices were properly posted.

 

4. Pledge of Allegiance

 

5. Delegations: This is the time for any person attending the meeting as an observer to express a particular comment or concern.

-Mr. Bruce Alten will be recognized for his 30 years of service for Fire Prevention Education to the School District of Chilton

-Acceptance of the following Gift(s) to the District:

Melissa Giebel, Harbor House Domestic Abuse Program, would like to make a monetary donation to the School District of Chilton for Challenge Days on December 7, 2015.

Walmart made a donation of $1,000.00 (twenty-$50.00 gift cards) to Chilton Elementary School Teachers.

Mr. Bruce Alten was recognized for his 30 years of service for Fire Prevention Education to the School District of Chilton.

Melissa Giebel, Harbor House Domestic Abuse Program, donated $1,000.00 to the School District of Chilton for Challenge Days on December 7, 2015.

6. Consent Items: (Board members may remove consent items on the agenda for discussion and/or separate action.)

There was a motion by Mr. Terry Criter, seconded by Mr. Dave Bailey to approve the following consent agenda items: Approval of minutes from previous board meetings, to

include committee meetings. Approval of bills as presented and authorize payment of check #208349 - #208400. ACH #151600269 - #151600325. The November receipts were

$110,921.01. The November disbursements including payroll were $1,538,979.13.

Recommendation for Hire: Miranda Lorenz, Registrar/Business Clerk, and Megan Tyson, Volunteer Dance Team Coach.

Recommendation for Retirement: Dr. Claire Martin, Superintendent, and Jill Popp, Middle School 5th Grade Teacher.

All ayes, motion carried.

Recommendation for Resignation - For Information Only.

Joshua Sweere, Girls' and Boys' Tennis Coach.

A. Approval of minutes from previous board meetings, to include committee meetings.

B. Approval of monthly bills and authorization to pay said bills.

C. Treasurer/Financial Report

7. Superintendent's Report: The Superintendent will update the Board on achievements/accomplishments of Chilton students and/or staff.

Dr. Claire Martin gave the Superintendent's report.

 

8. Old Business

A. President's Report - Mr. Randy Lisowe will update the Board on various topics.

REMINDERS:

-The WASB State Convention will be held in Milwaukee from January 20 - 22, 2016.

Early Bird Registration Deadline is December 11, 2015. Please let Dawn Bartel know if you plan to attend.

-School Board Elections - The deadline for filing Notification of Non-Candidacy is December 28, 2015, and the deadline for filing Declaration of Candidacy and

Campaign Registration Statement is January 5, 2016.

*Please be aware that school offices will be closed for the holiday on December 24, 25, 31, 2015 and January 1, 2016. All school offices may be closed on December 28, 29,

30, 2015.

Policy Committee Report

-The next committee meeting will be held on December 3, 2015.

Finance Committee Report

-The last committee meeting was held on November 10, 2015.

Buildings and Grounds Committee Report

-The last committee meeting was held on November 11, 2015.

Co-Curricular Committee Report

The next Policy Committee meeting will be held on December 3, 2015.

The last Finance Committee meeting was held on November 10, 2015.

D. Police School Liaison Officer Quarterly Report - Mr. Jacob Meyer, Police School

Liaison Officer, will provide the Board of Education with his quarterly report.

E. The Engler Center for the Performing Arts Usage - Mr. Russ Rautmann will present information to the Board on usage of the Engler Center during the 2014-2015 school

year.

F. Approval of Updated Teacher and Support Staff Employment Handbooks - The Board of Education will be asked to approve updates to the Teacher and Support Staff

Employment Handbooks.

There was a motion by Mr. Corey Brickl, seconded by Mr. Jerry Kolbe to approve updates to the Teacher and Support Staff Employment Handbooks. All ayes, motion carried.

 

9. New Business

A. Approval of Technology Support/Coach - The Board of Education will be asked to approve a Technology Support/Coach.

There was a motion by Mr. Corey Brickl, seconded by Mr. Dave Bailey to approve a Technology Support/Coach position. All ayes, motion carried.

B. Student Field Trip Approval - We have the following field trip request:

The German 2 Class would like to go on a field to Christkindlmarkt in Daley Plaza, Chicago on Monday, December 7, 2015. A copy of the itinerary is attached for your

review.

There was a motion by Mr. Jerry Kolbe, seconded by Mr. Dave Bailey to approve the the German 2 Class to go on a field trip to Christkindlmarkt in Daley Plaza, Chicago on

Monday, December 7, 2015. All ayes, motion carried.

 

10. Administrative Reports - The following administrators will provide administrative

updates on their areas of responsibility:

Mr. Rich Appel, Middle School Principal

Dr. Claire Martin, Superintendent

Mr. Ty Breitlow, High School Principal

Mrs. Pam Schuster, Elementary School Principal

Dr. Claire Martin reported on: The WASB Regional meeting in Kiel and the emphasis of advocacy on behalf of public education as it relates to policy and legislature.

 

11. Convene into closed session pursuant to State Stat. 19.85(1)(c) to discuss the Superintendent's performance evaluation.

There was a motion by Mr. Dave Bailey, seconded by Mr. Corey Brickl to convene into closed session to discuss the Superintendent's performance evaluation. Upon a roll call

vote, that motion carried with unanimous consent. Ayes: Lisowe, Criter, Brickl, Kolbe and Bailey.

 

12. Reconvene in open session and act on matters discussed in closed session if necessary and appropriate.

 

13. Adjournment

There was a motion by Mr. Jerry Kolbe, seconded by Mr. Dave Bailey to adjourn the meeting. All ayes, motion carried.
