ACT Parent Letter

Feb212017

ACT Parent Letter

Dear Parents and/Guardians,

On Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday March 1, Chilton High School will be administering the ACT plus Writing and ACT Workkeys examinations.  Both tests are state mandated for all 11th grade students. Recently, our faculty has engaged the Juniors in ACT preparation exercises and examination pre-administration in preparation for next weeks statewide test. Attendance of Juniors on both days is essential.

The Junior (11th Grade) level examinations will be administered from approximately 8am to 11:30am on both days.  Calculators are provided for each examinee. Accessing any electronic devices is prohibited at any time during the examination time block.   Snacks and water will be provided to students during exam breaks and lunch will provided by the Chilton Public Schools for any student with accommodations, such as extended time, which cause the student to test beyond the scheduled examination time period.

For a secure, fair and cost-efficient administered examination, on Tuesday, February 28, the ONLY students that will be allowed to enter Chilton HS are those that are:

  • 11th grade students taking the ACT plus Writing examination
  • In need of academic assistance
  • Have outstanding (missing) course material
  • Have tests and other assessments to be made-up

Students in grades 9, 10 and 12, in general, will NOT be allowed in the building on Tuesday, February 28 unless scheduled to be so (for reasons referenced above) during the academic assistance time or test make-up which will be run from 8-11:30am.  The buses will run at normal times and any student that remains in the building after the testing or academic assistance period will be supervised until 3:10pm when buses arrive.

For the Workkeys examination on March 1, classes will run on a “Customary” Wednesday schedule with all students and 11th grade students will be excused from their academic courses during blocks 1 and 2 to test in the All-Purpose Room (Wrestling Room).

Your assistance in carrying out the delivery of these examinations is appreciated. More information on the ACT suite of assessments can be found at https://dpi.wi.gov/assessment/act.  If you have questions or need more information about the testing procedures outlined above, please call the HS Main Office at 920.849.2358.

Respectfully yours in earnest,
Mr. Ty Breitlow

Upcoming Arts Integration Events at Chilton

Chilton Public School District has been awarded a grant, through the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, to foster Arts Integration for our K-12 staff and students. As part of this grant, we are hosting several nationally and internationally known artists right here in Chilton. Please join us for these community events and experience the arts in a whole new way.  You will be able to hear Glenis Redmond, a nationally known poet, read some of her poetry and she’ll encourage you to share your own story.  Attend the VOCES8 concert and be amazed at how music can move you. This concert will be in conjunction with the Chilton Public School District Arts Integration Open House.  All of the community events include hors d’oeuvres and beverages before the performances.

Two CHS Students Qualify for 2017 Microsoft Office Specialist National Championship

Congratulations to Alex Brandt and Lauren Mortimer who have qualified for the 2017 Microsoft Office Specialist National Championship. Both students are taking the MS Office Suite class at CHS. In this class, students earn two credits from FVTC and can become certified in MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Excel. The certification demonstrates that one has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to productively use Microsoft Office.

When students register for the certification, they are automatically entered into the MOS World Championship. To qualify, students need to have the top score in their respective state on one or more of the following certifications: MS Word 2013, MS Excel 2013, MS PowerPoint 2013, MS Word 2016, MS Excel 2016, or MS PowerPoint 2016. Chilton High School was privileged to have two students take the top honors. Alex Brandt qualified in MS Excel 2016 with a score of 891. Lauren Mortimer qualified in MS PowerPoint 2016 with a score of 900. Each will receive a certificate as well as the chance to compete in Orlando, FL this June if they are available. CHS also had Anika Schmitz place third in the state in Excel and Amy Schmitz place third in the state for PowerPoint. They each will be awarded a certificate.
